Timer
Front row seat to the action! If you love encouraging and cheering on the swimmers, this is a great job for you. You'll be assigned to a Chadds Walk lane and simply hit "start & stop" on the timer, and log the time on the sheet. Easy as that!
- There is usually a Timer at each end of the pool, for each of the lanes. You time one lane only.
- Pick up your clipboard, stopwatch and Event cards for your lane at the Check-in table.
- Practice with the stopwatch so you know which buttons start, stop and clear the watch.
- Before the meet begins, you will report to the meeting that the Official calls for all Timers and Place Judges.
- Report to your lane.
- Start the watch as soon as the Starter blows his whistle, blows the horn, whatever. Stop the watch when the child touches the wall with their hand. Write the time on the bottom of the card. If there is a question about the name of the child, change the name on the card. (Sometimes the Coaches have to make last minute changes.)
- Clear your watch for the next event.
- Hold the card up for the Runner to come pick up.
- Never leave your lane unless there is a replacement for you. If you have a problem, ask another parent or volunteer to find a Volunteer Coordinator or the Team Coordinator.
- At the end of your shift, give the clipboard and stop watch to your replacement or return them to the Volunteer Coordinator at the end of the meet.
- If you are taking over for the second shift, be sure to be ON TIME!!
